My Heart of Darkness.

where the thin line between illusion and reality becomes blurred by the very hand that draws it; where the search for answers lead to more questions; where you have to be broken to be built; where nothing sees miracles but misery. Welcome to my Heart of Darkness.

is it better to will ourselves to forget the unpleasantries so that they never occured? doing so involves denying our memory. but what do we lose by doing so?

if we could erase part of our past and create a rupture of unpleasant memories, so that the world could be a much nicer place, would we do it? what do we lose by doing so?

our identity? our sense of "self"? but what do these matter if we could become Adam and reconstruct everything from the beginning?

jae pointed this out to me. . . compare the two photos below, the first from fiza's blog, of herself in the USC rag dance costume this year (her costume is that of a sprite, a mythical little elf-like creature). the second photo is from the NUS website, of the President of NUS (yes, there is such a position) prof shih during the annual Freshmen Inaguration Ceremony. . . detect any similarities?

now, looking at both pictures, the 65 million dollar question is: is prof shih a sprite too? ok i'm bored, and jae must be too. . . anyone who dares ask him about his "secret identity" and provide me evidence, you'll have the next blog post dedicated to you.

elections are a big headache. . . its amazing how i can think my entire future in NUS seemingly hinges on my decision whether or not i should run for re-election in the 6th MC. . . its one of those irritating 50/50 choices that you have to make, and no one would tell you what you're in for. . . currently i'm leaning more towards the "yes" side, but who knows?

someday perhaps i will look back on this and be able to see the funny side of things

rag's over. and i'm happy. no its not one of those "good riddence" sort of happy, but the sort of happy you feel upon completing something you never thought possible at the beginning. our float might not even be a fraction as grand and gasp-inducing as others, but what mattered to me was that it was beautiful in my eyes.

the two respective faculties i have been with in the past two years did not win anything but looking at it from another perspective, i've realised the verity of keyou's statement made last year - the fact that we managed to parade a float on rag day is an achievement, and hence a triumph in itself, something all the more true for the USP float this year.

no matter how tired and irritable it makes me feel, or how sleep deprived i am, or how i smell after not showering for more than a day, i love rag. and i will gladly do it again next year. and to all the USP raggers i've had the pleasure of working with this year, i hope i won't be alone in making this commitment.

btw, jae just told me that he lost 2kg during the course of rag. congrats jae. i hope you become the rag PD next year and you'll end up looking like junwen at the end of it all. =)
